If you’re facing retaliation in the workplace in California, the first thing you have to do is document, document, document. You have to document to Human Resources that you feel retaliated against based on a protected category. And email is the easiest way to do that. And keep a copy of that email for yourself so that you have proof that you complained about the retaliation.
